    The new moon happens when the moon is in between the Earth and the Sun on its orbital path. The new moon is described as invisible because the part of the moon that is illuminated by the Sun is not facing the Earth. Only the dark side of the moon is visible.

  • Crescent Moon & Venus Evening Conjunction

    The thin crescent Moon and Venus are within 3 degrees of each other on the evening of May 18, 2026. Look low in the West after sunset. This will make for a great binocular target and photo opportunity.

  • Full Moon – Blue Moon

    This is the second Full Moon in May and thus a "blue moon." The moon will no change colors. It will appear just like any other full moon. "Blue Moon" is just the term used to describe the second full moon within a month. Blue moon's happen roughly every 2.5 to 3 years.
