The ZWO SeeStar S30 is a compact all-in-one smart telescope that makes capturing the night sky simple while still delivering impressive results. The entire unit stands about a foot tall with the included mini tripod and weighs a touch over 3.5 lbs. It comes with its own soft sided carrying case, and it’s super portable. The S30 debuted in November 2024. Go here for my dedicated S30 Smart Telescope page for details on the telescope itself or continue on for more about the images I’ve captured with this fun scope.
ZWO SeeStar S30 on the Skywatcher Star Adventurer mount.
I captured all of the images below with the S30. Most were taken from as short as 3 – 5 minutes to a hour or two of live stacking. I tweaked the images slightly and denoised them as well, all in the app. The images speak for themselves. Are they perfect? No. And yes, one could stack them and post process them outside of the SeeStar app to achieve better results, sure. So as I write this I have only had the S30 for a couple of weeks and have not gone down the post processing rabbit hole. I’m loving this thing just watching the live images stack in the app! It’s just too easy to setup and use. Sure, it has it’s place, and it won’t replace my modular and bigger rig, but again, it’s too easy and too much fun. Taken with the ZWO SeeStar S30 in EQ mode on the Skywatcher Star Adventurer wedge and tripod this is over 4 hours of data on the Horsehead (IC 434) and Flame (NGC 2024) nebulae in Orion. Post processing was done in the SeeStar app using Auto DBE, Denoise and other slight tweaking.
Omega Centauri, NGC5139 in Centaurus on June 19, 2026.
This is Omega Centauri, NGC 5139 in the southern constellation Centaurus. It’s the largest and brightest globular cluster associated with our Milky Way galaxy. It’s located about 17,000 light years out, 150 light years across and contains roughly 10 million stars. All of the stars in this cluster are 10-12 billion years old and that means Omega Centauri is a fossil remnant of the Milky Way itself. This object only gets 9 degrees above my the southern horizon here in the DFW area. I was able to catch it at it's best in late spring. I did have to move my S30 around in the yard several times to find a gap in the trees and recalibrate my polar/EQ alignment to make this image work.
