Comet NEOWISE C/2020 F3

Comet NEOWISE

Comet NEOWISE (C/2020 F3) imaged in July 2020. I used a tripod mounted Nikon D5100 and Nikkor 55-200mm lens for most of the images below but the first image was through a Meade Series 6000 70mm Quad APO Astrograph telescope. Additionally, I have included a short time-lapse video of NEOWISE setting on the evening of July 19, 2020. This video was shot with a GoPro HERO8 Black using “nightscape” mode.

This comet moved from being a morning object to an evening object around July 15, 2020.  I’ve included the finder charts below courtesy of Stellarium to show where the comet could have been found in the sky during it’s bright pass through the inner solar system.

NEOWISE is/was the best comet to grace the skies of the northern hemisphere in at least a decade. It was highly photographed and provided much joy for observers the world over amid the global pandemic.
