I took this image of the Moon back on August 31, 2014. This is a digiscoped image taken through my Meade LXD55 10″ Schmidt-Newtonian. There are quite a few prominent landmarks of note to point out. Starting toward the top of the image the two standout craters just to the left of the terminator are Aristoteles and slightly smaller Eudoxus. Just below them and lit nicely on the terminator are the peaks of the Caucasus Mountains. Further still we have the egg-shaped Mare Serenitatis (Sea of Serenity) with the crater Posidonius on the left edge. Dropping straight down from Posidonius at the bottom-left of Mare Serenitatis is where Apollo 17 landed in the Tuarus-Littrow Valley. As we continue on we enter Mare Tranquillitatis (Sea of Tranquility). The Apollo 11 landing site is located on the lower right part of the Sea of Tranquility. Just below that is Sinus Asperitatis (Bay of Roughness). Just below the Bay of Roughness at the bottom of this image you’ll notice two large overlapping craters. The one with the central peak is Theophillus. The other is Cyrillus.
