Meteor Shower
Orionids Meteor Shower
The Orionids will peak on the night between Oct 21–22. The Orionid meteor shower is the second meteor shower created by Comet Halley.
Leonids Meteor Shower
The Leonid shower is produced by dust grains left behind by comet Tempel-Tuttle. It peaks this year on the night of the 17th and morning of the 18th. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Leo, but can appear anywhere in the sky.
Geminid Meteor Shower
Produced by debris left behind by an asteroid known as 3200 Phaethon, which was discovered in 1982. This shower runs from Dec 7-17. Quadrantid Meteor Shower
The Quadrantid meteor shower will be active from 12 December to 12 January, producing its peak rate of meteors around 2-3 January.
Lyrids Meteor Shower
The Lyrids will peak on the night between Apr 21–22. The meteors from this shower are created by debris from comet Thatcher, which takes about 415 years to orbit around the Sun. The comet is expected to be visible from Earth again in 2276.
Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower
The Eta Aquarids will peak on the night between May 4-5. The Eta Aquarids is one of two meteor showers created by debris from Comet Halley. This shower is more easily observed from the Southern hemisphere.
Tau Herculids Outburst?
A possible meteor outburst or storm could take place from the Tau Herculids meteor shower late Monday night/Tuesday morning May 30-31, 2022 at midnight for those in the Central time zone.
Delta Aquariid Meteor Shower
The peak of the Delta Aquariid meteor shower is late July. But the shower continues steadily into August. New moon falls on July 28, 2022 leaving night skies dark for meteor-watching. Perseid Meteor Shower
The Perseid meteor shower will reach its maximum rate of activity on August 11-12, 2022. Some shooting stars associated with the shower are expected to be visible each night from 23 July to 20 August.
Draconids Meteor Shower
The Draconid meteor shower will be active from October 6th to October 10th, producing its peak rate of meteors around October 9th. The Moon will be close to full phase on the day of maximum at the shower's peak, presenting significant interference throughout the night.
