Meteor Shower
Orionids Meteor Shower
The Orionids will peak on the night between Oct 20–21. The Orionid meteor shower is the second meteor shower created by Comet Halley.
Leonids Meteor Shower
The Leonid shower is produced by dust grains left behind by comet Tempel-Tuttle. It peaks this year on the night of the 17th and morning of the 18th. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Leo, but can appear anywhere in the sky.
Geminids Meteor Shower
Produced by debris left behind by an asteroid known as 3200 Phaethon, which was discovered in 1982. This shower runs from Dec 7-17. It peaks this year on the night of the 13th and morning of the 14th. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Gemini, but can appear anywhere in the sky.
Ursids Meteor Shower
A minor shower, with a radient located in the Little Dipper (part of Ursa Minor). The Ursid meteor shower will peak close to the new moon, meaning that interference will be significantly less than during the Geminids. Viewers can expect to see 7 to 10 meteors per hour. Lyrids Meteor Shower
The Lyrids will peak on the night of Apr 22–23 (Saturday night-Sunday morning). The moon is not a factor this year. Since the shower is happening on the weekend it should make for a great show weather permitting. The Lyrids produce about 18 meteors an hour at the peak. Perseid Meteor Shower Peak
The 2024 Perseid meteor shower is expected to peak on the night of August 12 and dawn of August 13. Although the moon will be about 50 percent illuminated, it will set at midnight, so the best viewing conditions will be early in the morning until dawn on the 13th.
