Lunar Occultation of Jupiter

May 17, 2023

On the morning of May 17, 2023 shortly before sunrise the Moon will pass in front of Jupiter low in the eastern sky. Jupiter will disappear behind the illuminated side of the Moon and reappear from behind the unilluminated side of the Moon. This event will be visible from parts of the Americas and Europe. The occultation will be visible from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. It will begin with the disappearance of Jupiter during twilight at 06:19 CDT. It will reappear at 07:19 CDT. The Sun will have risen by the time it emerges.
