Total Lunar Eclipse – March 13, 2025

Below are images I took of the total lunar eclipse that occurred on the night of March 13/14, 2025. I was located in the Cayman Islands at the time on Grand Cayman near Rum Point Beach. The weather was not quite perfect that night as there were some occasional low clouds and a slight breeze but that didn’t hamper the eclipse viewing.

This was a late night event. The partial phases (not the penumbral phases) didn’t begin until after midnight so I made the decision to just shoot the partial phases and totality and then turn in for the night. The reason the Moon changes orientation in my images below prior to the beginning of totality was due to a necessary meridian flip.

After having loaded these images in Abode Lightroom in preparation for teasing out the good bits I’m sorry to say that it quickly became apparent that my focus was as bit softer than expected. It’s a learning process. All was not lost however and I have something to work on and perfect before the next one.

Here are the details of the eclipse for my location from timeanddate.com:

Duration: 6h, 2m, 41s
Duration of totality: 1h, 5m, 20s
