Astronomy Podcasts

MicThere’s some pretty fantastic astronomy related podcasts available out there for your listening pleasure. You can listen to them online by using your PC or laptop as many have web sites or just use a podcast app on your smartphone or tablet. Search for and subscribe to those podcasts you find interesting. You’ll find podcasts dedicated to astrophotography, cosmology, night sky events and observing, space exploration and missions, NASA, and the list goes on.

I like to use the Apple Podcast app that comes installed on most iPhones. It works great, has plenty of settings to manage all subscribed podcasts and allows me to listen with my AirPods (earbuds) hands free while I’m tending to other things like say mowing the lawn. There are other options like Spotify, Overcast, and iHeart Radio to name a few apps. All allow you to subscribe to podcasts and listen at your convenience.

Here’s a small sample of some of astronomy related podcasts I find interesting. Give them and try and happy listening!

  • NASA – Houston, We Have a Podcast or search through all the NASA podcasts (and there are many) to find the one that best suits you.
  • StarDate – The daily radio show / podcast from UT’s McDonald Observatory
  • Star Talk – Science, pop culture and comedy collide on StarTalk Radio! Astrophysicist and Hayden Planetarium director Neil deGrasse Tyson, his comic co-hosts, guest celebrities and scientists discuss astronomy, physics, and everything else about life in the universe.
  • Space Junk – Check out OPT’s Space Junk Podcast to get latest interviews of all the biggest influences in the astronomy industry!
  • Space Time – Hosted by Stuart Gary and  recognized worldwide by listeners and industry experts as one of the best and most thoroughly researched programs on Astronomy, Technology, Space, and Science News.
  • Planetary Radio – Planetary Radio is a weekly 30-minute radio show devoted to space exploration and astronomy, hosted and produced by Mat Kaplan and The Planetary Society.
  • Sky Tour – Discover the night sky! For a guide to the celestial events coming up this month, listen to our Sky Tour astronomy podcast. S&T Senior Editor J. Kelly Beatty covers each month’s highlights of the night sky in a bite-size podcast.
