SUMMARY:Quadrantids Meteor Shower
DESCRIPTION:The Quadrantids is an above average shower\, with up to 40 meteors per hour at its peak. The shower runs annually from January 1-5. It peaks this year on the night of the 3rd and morning of the 4th. The crescent moon will set early in the evening\, leaving dark skies for what should be an excellent show. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Bootes\, but can appear anywhere in the sky.

SUMMARY:Mars at Opposition
DESCRIPTION:The red planet will be at its closest approach to Earth and its face will be fully illuminated by the Sun. It will be brighter than any other time of the year and will be visible all night long. This is the best time to view and photograph Mars. A medium-sized telescope will allow you to see some of the dark details on the planet’s orange surface.

DESCRIPTION:The Full Moon occurs at 4:26 p.m. CST on Jan. 13th when the Moon is opposite the sun in its orbit around Earth. Its sunlit side is entirely visible from Earth. The moon appears full to the eye for two to three nights. SUMMARY:Occultation of Mars by the Moon
DESCRIPTION:If you live in North America\, you won’t want to miss this celestial event. An occultation happens when one celestial body passes in front of another\, thereby hiding (or occulting) it from view. In this case\, on Monday evening the Full (Wolf) Moon is passing in front of Mars. Full Moon actually occurs a few hours earlier at 4:26 p.m. CST but after dark look for the rising Moon in Gemini just below the star Pollux. The occultation begins at about 7:53 p.m. CST with Mars sliding behind the Moon for viewers in the DFW area. Mars will emerge an hour later at 8:55 p.m.

SUMMARY:Saturn Ring Plane Crossing
DESCRIPTION:On March 23\, 2025\, Saturn’s rings will appear to “disappear” because they will be edge-on as viewed from Earth. This is called a “ring plane crossing.”  Earth makes passes through the ring plane every 13 to 15 years\, about every half Saturn year\, and there are about equal chances of either a single or three crossings occurring in each such occasion.

SUMMARY:Partial Solar Eclipse
DESCRIPTION:A partial solar eclipse occurs when the Moon covers only a part of the Sun. A partial solar eclipse can only be safely observed with a solar filter. This partial eclipse will be visible throughout Greenland and most of northern Europe. It will not be visible for most of North America but those in the northeastern United States and Canada will be able see it. The eclipse is in progress as the Sun rises on March 29th for those in the northeastern part of the U.S.

SUMMARY:Rare Quadruple Conjunction
DESCRIPTION:A rare quadruple conjunction of Mercury\, Venus\, Saturn\, and the Moon will occur at 6 a.m. on Friday morning\, April 25th . Step outside about an hour before sunrise (6 a.m. in the DFW area) and look low in the east. You will need a good unobstructed view of the eastern horizon to see this grouping. Mercury will be lowest and hardest to see then to its upper right find the slim waning crescent moon which will be flanked by bright Venus and the ringed planet Saturn. Additionally\, Neptune is just under 2 degrees away from the Moon in the general direction of Saturn. You’ll need binoculars or a telescope to see Neptune. Look early for Mercury and Neptune as they will be the first to be lost in the brightening sky due to the pending sunrise. This will make for a great photo op as the sky begins to brighten with the pending sunrise.
